Figurative Elements Now Searchable in Swissreg

From now on, figurative elements of trade marks can be searched in the IP rights database Swissreg.

The figurative elements of figurative, word/figurative and other trade marks are now coded using the Vienna Classification. The ‘Vienna Classification’ filter can be used to find and select these codes and then search for all trade marks whose figurative elements are classified in the corresponding classes.

A search for figurative elements was previously not possible. This is because search terms entered in the Swissreg search field are only searched for in the word components of trade marks.

The Vienna Classification is an international classification system that divides the figurative components of trade marks into 29 categories, divisions and sections based on their visual elements. It was created in 1973 by the Vienna Agreement establishing an International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Trade Marks and is administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). A complete list of all Vienna codes can be found on the WIPO website.
