INPI reports steady growth in trademark filings and grants


According to the INPI Annual Statistics Report 2024, Portugal continued to grow in brand protection. 21,534 trademark and other distinctive sign applications were filed, up 2.9% from 2023, while 17,661 trademarks were granted (+9.9%).

96% of filings came from Portuguese residents, with the U.S., Spain, and Brazil leading foreign applicants. Class 35 (Advertising & Business Management) and Class 41 (Education & Entertainment) were the most popular classes.

EU trademarks of Portuguese origin rose 10.2% to 2,385; international filings totaled 148 from Portugal and 1,043 designations for Portugal.
