Trademark applications increased in 2025

According to the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO), the country’s trademark landscape continued to show strong momentum in 2025, with a total of 97,411 trademark applications filed. This represents an 8% increase compared to the previous year.

Domestic applicants accounted for 77.6% of all filings, while foreign applicants represented 22.4%. These figures underline strong local brand activity as well as continued international interest in the Taiwanese market.

Among domestic filings, the most active Nice Classes were Class 35 for advertising and business services, Class 42 for scientific and technological services, Class 41 for education and entertainment, Class 9 for computer and technology products, and Class 29 for meat, fish, dairy products and preserved foods.

For foreign applicants, the leading classes included Class 9 for computer and technology products, Class 28 for toys, games and playthings, and Class 30 for coffee, tea, pastries and related food products.

TIPO also improved its trademark examination efficiency in 2025. The average first office action pendency was reduced to 5.6 months, enabling businesses to obtain clarity more quickly and strengthen their IP portfolios in Taiwan.

The development confirms Taiwan’s continued importance as an attractive trademark jurisdiction in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly for companies seeking effective brand protection in a competitive and innovation-driven market.
