New Fact Sheet on Artificial Intelligence and IP


The European IP Helpdesk has published a new fact sheet, “Navigating Intellectual Property in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, providing practical guidance on the interaction between artificial intelligence (AI) and intellectual property. The fact sheet was published on July 30, 2026.

The publication addresses key IP issues arising from the development and use of AI, including:

- protection of AI technologies and systems;
- copyright considerations when using third-party content and datasets for AI training;
- ownership and use of AI-generated content; and
- the interaction between AI and the EU’s evolving legal and regulatory framework.

It also provides practical guidance for AI developers and users on how to protect, manage and commercialise AI-related intellectual assets. The fact sheet is particularly aimed at researchers, SMEs, start-ups and other innovators.
