Entry into force of the 2026 edition of the Guidelines for Examination of EUTMs and EUDs


On 1 July 2026, the new edition of the examination guidelines of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) entered into force.

The Guidelines for Examination of EU trade marks (EUTMs) and registered EU designs (EUDs) were adopted on 30 June 2026 by the Executive Director through Decision No EX 26 09 (EUIPO). The current edition is unusually comprehensive and introduces tangible changes to both trade mark and design proceedings.
