Trade Mark protection period extended in Kurdistan

The Trade Mark Office in Kurdistan, Iraq, has officially transitioned from a 10-year to a 15-year trade mark protection period, in accordance with the amended Trade Marks and Commercial Data Law No. 21 of 1957.

The extended term applies to new registrations, pending applications upon registration, and renewals. Existing registrations issued under the former 10-year practice will remain valid until their stated expiry date and will benefit from the 15-year protection period upon the next renewal term.

This development marks a significant change in trade mark practice across the Kurdistan Region and is a critical consideration for brand owners reviewing their upcoming registration and renewal timelines.
