Use confirmation introduced for trademark applications

From 18 August 2026, trademark and service mark applications in Russia must include a confirmation that the applicant intends to use the designation for all goods and services covered by the application.

The new requirement is based on Order No. 386 of the Ministry of Economic Development of 13 May 2026, issued on 7 August 2026, and is intended to bring filing practice more closely into line with actual intended use.

The change affects the application form only. There is no general obligation to submit proof or confirmation of use after registration, unless this is specifically required in legal proceedings.
