Kazpatent clarifies how goods and services are counted for examination fees

Kazpatent has clarified how goods and services are counted for the calculation of trademark examination fees under the new tariffs effective since 1 January 2026. The base fee covers up to ten items per Nice class, with additional fees for each further item.

Each independent entry in the Nice Classification with its own six-digit basic number counts as one item. Where no such number exists, items are counted according to their individual meaning, regardless of whether they are combined by commas or conjunctions. For example, "clothing, footwear, headwear" counts as three items, while descriptive terms relating to a single product do not increase the count. Nice class headings are not treated as single items.

Applicants are advised to use precise descriptions and clearly separate individual goods and services, as broad or combined wording may result in higher examination fees.
